Artist Statement: I work within the expanded fields of printmedia, fibers, and small metals – My printed imagery is largely informed by photography, performance, and the body. Through making I share auto-biographical scrutinization of my self-proclaimed identity and analyze an internalized relationship with myself and others and how those thoughts contrast with outward behaviors. My work is often situated within the home, capturing lived experiences. A recent body of work in woodcut print, titled “You can see it on the horizon now,” explores narratives of self-deprecating and self-compassionate behaviors happening within a small apartment and over the course of a year. I am interested in illuminating how these fleeting moments in time accumulate to construct an individualistic sense of self, and while they are private moments in which I might feel alienated because the experience is specific, the feelings are common and felt by many. In this way my work is not meant to be self-representation but rather a representation of youth, angst, and empathy.
